The studio
Lacunae Designs is an independent, one-person fiction studio: novels on one side, interactive fiction on the other, both self-published and both built without a studio behind them. Everything under this roof, the writing, the design, the two sites and the tools that support them, comes from the same desk. There is no separate marketing team and no publisher's imprint sitting between the work and the reader.
The name
Lacunae are the gaps in a record: the missing pages, the years nobody wrote down, the parts of a life that history simply lost track of. Both works here live in that territory, in different ways. Perpetūra follows several lives history lost track of, spread far apart in time and place. Pantheon follows one woman who has made herself into a gap in the record on purpose, and spends the whole book being read anyway. The name is the studio's own way of saying what both stories are actually about, so it stayed, rather than a title chosen for how it sounds.
What it makes
The studio makes novels and interactive fiction: two different shapes for the same kind of story, one you read start to finish and one you read by choosing. Both are self-published and both are built on the open web rather than inside someone else's platform. No engine where one is not needed, no tracking script watching who reads what, and no dependency on a service that could vanish and take the work with it. New work joins this page as it exists, rather than being announced before it does.
Follow along
The mailing list on the home page covers the whole studio: release dates, pre-orders, anything new, and nothing else, sent rarely. Perpetūra and Pantheon each keep their own site as well, reachable from their pages here, for a reader who only wants news of the one.
