Hyunjae, rewritten

Hyunjae's story has been rewritten. Not touched up. Rewritten, from the first line to the last.

She was the first road I ever wrote here, and that is exactly the problem with her. I was still learning what this game was while I was writing her, and she carried every bit of that learning on her back. When I went back and read her after finishing the stories that came later, I could hear it. The later women were allowed to breathe. She was being hurried through her own life.

So I gave her the time. Every chapter is new prose now. The scenes that used to be summarised are scenes you actually sit inside. The rooms have weather in them. The silences are as long as they should have been the first time, and there are more of them, because most of what happens between those two is a thing neither of them is willing to say out loud. Her three roads used to lean on the same handful of moments. They do not anymore. Each one now reads like it belongs to the person she is on it.

If you have read Hyunjae before, this is worth reading again. That is not a thing I would say lightly, and it is not a thing I have said about an update before. The shape of her story is unchanged, and so is every place your choices lead. What changed is that she is finally being given the same room I gave the women who came after her.

Your saves still work. If you are partway down one of her roads, you can pick up where you left off, and the road ahead of you will simply be better written than the one behind.

The two remaining stories are still coming. Going back to fix the first one was not a detour from that. It was the thing I could not keep walking past.

Thank you for reading.
