Liuyan arrives

The third story is here.
Liuyan is set on the roads of Tang Dynasty China, around 750. She is a blade-for-hire who has spent her whole life being useful and unreadable, a woman who treats pain the way a debtor treats a creditor he means to outlive. She has made her wound into her method so thoroughly that she can no longer tell the form from the injury. The long road west gives her, for the first time, people who will not let her stay unread.
There is a broker who has spent his life pricing everyone and cannot price her, and who learns to stand at exactly the distance she can bear. A physician who looks at the thing she is proudest of and sees first what it cost her to build it. A performer who has spent his whole life making rooms feel things on purpose, and who, uniquely, wants nothing from her at all. And if she would rather, there is a fourth road, where she keeps her own counsel and finds out what is there when no one is watching and no one is being performed for.
Like the stories before it, Liuyan is a complete romance with its own world and its own endings. It stands alone, and it also connects, quietly, to something larger that the game never announces. That thread is just there, for anyone who notices it.
There is something else in this update you will hear before you have read a word. The whole soundtrack is new. Every story now has its own music, and within each story every path has a voice of its own, so the road you walk sounds like the person you are walking it with. The menu, the prologue and the codex each have a theme now too. It is the first time the game has sounded, end to end, the way I always heard it in my head.
Two more roads are still being written. They are closer than they were.
Thank you for reading.
